Try these independent exercises in your copy of Transport Tycoon Deluxe or in OpenTTD. They are not results of an official competition.
Twenty-year starter company
Choose a default map, start a new company and try to build two profitable connections within your first twenty game years. Avoid expensive construction until your first route has completed several successful trips. Record income after year five and again after year twenty.
Freight without unnecessary detours
Identify two connected industries and build the shortest practical delivery chain. Before expanding, inspect station coverage and travel time. Re-run the challenge using a different vehicle type and compare running costs rather than just up-front purchase prices.
Town-to-town passenger network
Select three towns, link two with rail and connect the third with a bus feeder or another service. Watch station catchment and passenger waiting volumes. When congestion appears, solve it with route layout or frequency rather than buying vehicles indiscriminately.
