Maps, Terrain and Scenario Planning
Plan a map before you spend
Start by scanning terrain, town spacing, industry locations and transport corridors. A wide valley may favor rail, while a narrow coastal strip may work well for ships. Use the map view to identify prospective demand rather than placing stations simply because a town looks large.
Look at the cost of geography
Mountains, wide rivers and dense urban centers make construction more expensive. When learning the game, choose scenarios where one short train line can connect a producer and consumer. You can return to more difficult maps after understanding maintenance and capacity costs.
Archival franchise maps
The images supplied with the original website depict the broader Transport Tycoon franchise. Map scale and graphics differ among the 1995 Deluxe release, the 2013 mobile edition and current OpenTTD builds. Interpret them as reference imagery rather than promises about your installed game.
